“ Art is an act of the soul, not the intellect”

                                                 Julia Cameron

Teri Jones didn’t pick up a paintbrush until she was almost 40. She had surrounded herself with artists all her life, yet she had no idea that there was an visual artist within. In 1993 she joined a group of fellow spiritual explorers and began a 12 week course based on the book “ The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron. “The book changed my life” she states. “I always thought that I should be a writer and was trying to write the great American novel when all of the sudden I was struck with a passion to paint“. Following her passion had her taking beginning watercolor classes three times. “ I didn’t learn quickly but the desire to paint never left me, I kept trying one more time, to master the medium” Now she laughs when she thinks that she once thought that watercolor was a medium to master. “ I learn more with each painting I attempt and now try to continue to look at each painting adventure with a beginners mind.“

A professional artist since 1998 she has won numerous awards for her watercolors, had many one woman shows, owned a gallery, been an artist in residence in Roche Harbor Resort in the San Juan Islands and Paradise Point in St. Thomas, USVI, and taught watercolors to both children and adults throughout the Caribbean. A love of warm waters and sailing brought her to the US Virgin Islands in 2003 where she quickly established herself in the local art community and became one of the featured artists in the Gallery St. Thomas (www.gallerystthomas.com) . In the spring of 2005 she signed on as crew aboard the sailing vessel Sea Otter and has been living her dream ever since. Teri is painting her cruising experience. A love of blue-water sailing, seaside towns, unspoiled back waters, and the quiet times found only in the wilderness, are reflected in the images she shares in her paintings.
